Calling all Fashionistas! On May 8, 2015, the Marist College fashion program presented its 29th Annual Silver Needle Fashion Show and Awards at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center — and it was a stunner. Designs ranged from stylish active wear to a chic children’s collection to eye-catching day-to-night outfits. Bright colors, intricate details, and wool fabrics (thanks to a collaboration with Woolrich) were the main themes of this year’s show.
An impressive group of 21 Marist College seniors presented their collections in front of seven esteemed judges and a packed Civic Center audience. Junior designs were also on display at the beginning of the show.
The award for Outstanding Senior Design Collection went to Audrey Maysek for her adorable children’s line. Jill Hub won Outstanding Senior Garment with one of the art-inspired pieces in her collection. Kevin Crowley was recognized for his Outstanding Senior Design Portfolio, which included a number of bold, urban menswear looks.
HV Mag’s Top Looks
Digital Intern Amber Case:
While every Marist College fashion senior deserves praise for their admirable work creating their own designs, my favorite collection was Brianna Sherlock’s. As someone who would not consider herself daring when it comes to fashion, I found Sherlock’s collection to be refreshingly simple and elegant. Her pairing of different colors and fabrics was what stood out to me the most. My favorite look was an outfit I could see myself wearing: a mocha brown poncho with black leather accents, gray wool pants, and a pair of tan suede ankle boots. Although I had to determine a favorite, seeing all of the original designs created by Marist students made me even more proud to be a Red Fox!
Editorial Intern Sabrina Sucato:
I was blown away by the amount of talent on display at the Silver Needle show. Although I could not get over how cute Audrey Maysek’s designs (and models) were, I was equally impressed by Deanna Proske’s moody collection. The two pairs of pants were likely my favorite pieces in the show. I loved the sleek materials and unique embellishments in Proske’s designs. From a laser-cut crop top to a burnished metallic dress, this collection is exactly what I would want to wear.
Not to be outdone, Abigail Taylor’s designs were also elegant. I love how successfully she embraced color and created the perfect set for summer. The watercolor shirt with floral embellishments was gorgeous, as was the peach bustier top and matching silk skirt. The outfits combined impeccable polish with unexpected colors to create a winning collection. Needless to say, I would wear each and every one of her pieces.
