Where in the Hudson Valley…?

Where can kids ride on wild foxes, black bears, turkeys, and skunks — without their parents getting worried? Why, at the Bear Mountain State Park merry-go-round, of course! A fun fixture at one of the Valley’s most popular parks, this colorful carousel — and the subject of our contest — was spotted by New Paltz’s Cami Fischer, who writes: “It’s a must-see for kids or adults.” Click here to answer this month’s quiz — about a boy with a “holy” shoe — for our prize.

We spotted the turkey right away since we were just there; I had never before seen these icons as carousel rides. I was impressed not only with the creatures, but the beautiful building that was built for the ride.

My kids love riding it — and as a history teacher, I love how creative and informative the design is.

I recognized the fox; my girls have ridden it many times. Even though they are older now, we still visit every time we go ice skating. I really enjoy your magazine. Thank you for all the great articles on the Hudson Valley.

This beautiful park has been a family favorite for decades. Valleyites are fortunate to have such a gem located right in their backyard — the carousel, ice rink, zoo, Hessian Lake, Perkins Drive, beautiful hiking trails, and much more.

We love it. It’s in Stony Point, but the entrance is closer to Fort Montgomery.

This is an amazing park which we frequent often in spring, summer, and fall.
