The Mark 14 torpedo was interesting in that it was not a very reliable weapon — it tended to run deeper than the set depth, failed to detonate at target, and was known at times to circle back to the ship that launched it.

A-plus education
My son started at the Kildonan School in September, and I just want to validate everything Dr. Robert Lane said (“Private Schools,” Feb.). My son failed consistently in a series of schools, public and private, for the last four years. For the first time, he is tasting success. The school has indeed already changed his life. Outstanding faculty, great leaders, and a good group of kids.

The article “Power Brokers” (Feb.) has an error in it. The section entitled “Biggest inspiration for Gov. Sarah Palin” states that Palin resigned from the office of governor of Alaska to run for vice president. This is false: Palin was on the November 2008 ballot as John McCain’s running mate. She resigned from office on July 3, 2009 stating she would step down at the end of the month. Her resignation came after she and McCain lost the election.

We went to Tuthill House at the Mill (“Tuthill House Tavern,” The Accidental Foodie) the second week it opened. I usually do not visit newly opened restaurants — I like to give them a few months so they can organize the kitchen and staff. It was a little chilly, but the warmth of the people really made the night. I will be going again. Keep up the great work, Gabriello family; it is such a pleasure to see that Gardiner is adding more life to the community.
