Where in the Hudson Valley…?

Write to us: edit@hvmag.com

Legend has it that author Washington Irving came up with the idea for Rip Van Winkle while strolling through Poet’s Walk in Red Hook — the subject of last month’s puzzler. Now owned by Scenic Hudson, the park spans 120 acres and features a unique gazebo called Overlook Pavilion. Congrats to eagle-eyed reader Edward Watson of Millerton who nabbed the prize. Click here to see if you know the location of a local beacon of light…

It’s Poet’s Walk. My seven-year-old daughter and six-year-old son figured it out.

I was there last month when it was swarming with cicadas. Loved it!

Having moved to North Carolina, Poet’s Walk is one of the beautiful places that I miss in the Hudson Valley.

Cheers to Beer!

The article on HV craft breweries was great (August). Being a minor league craft brew aficionado, I thought I knew where most of the local breweries were; I was very wrong. You pointed out many I had never heard of and definitely will try. What would have made the article perfect is an inset map showing where each of the featured breweries is located so a tasting trip could be planned.

Corrections:

Our beer story erroneously stated that Newburgh Brewing’s Brown Ale received a score of 88 out of 100 from Beer Advocate; the score was 98 out of 100. Their products are available at 120 establishments in the New York area.
Cave Mountain Brewing Company is owned by Tim Adams and Lisa Adams-Alinder. Amber Adams is no longer affiliated with the brewery.

Puppy Love

You sure know how to make a grown man cry! Leander Schaerlaeckens’s essay (Final Word, August) moved me to tears. Ivy must have been a wonderful golden retriever, who is now at peace assisting others above.

Artsy Kingston

I very much enjoyed your article about the lively Kingston arts scene (Chatter, August). I’d like to add that this year the Ulster Ballet celebrated its 30th year sponsoring its annual Festival of Dance. This event continues to be a showcase for regional dance companies and has been very well received by the community. We look forward to next year’s festival and hopefully many more to come.

tony's pizza

All in the Family

While doing a Google search, I stumbled on the article you wrote on Tony’s Pizzeria (“Fresh, Hot, Delicious Pizza,” January). I want to thank you for your kind words about my grandfather — my namesake — and his pizzeria business. It brought back wonderful memories of my childhood. I’m looking forward to visiting the new Tony’s.
