The days of horse-drawn carriages are long gone, but on occasion, these mobile mementos make cameo appearances during historical reenactments and celebrations. Sharp-eyed readers recognize one such relic parked front and center at the Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeepsie, which artist and inventor Samuel F.B. Morse called home. Contest winner Elizabeth Brofman of Hopewell Junction writes of the site: “A wonderful place to spend the day. Visit the historic mansion, hike the trails, enjoy the fabulous gardens, check out the rotating art shows, or view the museum exhibits. Something for everyone!” Take a shot at naming another famous artist’s estate — this one upriver — here.
I just discovered this carriage earlier this month during the Sunset Sensations event.

What a joy to see your article on Frank Dushin (“The Other Frank,” Sept.). Seeing the Clifton house was wonderful, as my husband Jim Hannigan (J.H. Hannigan Construction Co.) built that house. Jim and Frank got along very well, and worked together several times. His photo is great, complete with glass in hand! We applaud Sue Downes and Michelle Clifton for bringing attention to Frank’s work, as we knew him to be the best.

From “Super Sandwiches” (Aug.) writer Melissa Esposito:
I’ve become a Cafe Mezzaluna regular now, and when I stopped by recently the owner told me that, the day before, she’d seated a couple from out of town who said they were doing a tour. The Saugerties Artist Studio Tour was going on that weekend, so she asked them who their favorite artists were so far. They looked confused and said, “We’re not doing an art tour, we’re doing the Hudson Valley Magazine Sandwich Tour!”
