Where in the Hudson Valley…?
What could be a more appropriate location for a town historian’s office than a 250-year-old building? Such is the case with the Pleasant Valley Mill Store — a stone edifice built in the 1700s where dry goods and groceries were sold. The earliest evidence of commerce in the town, it escaped two fires during its lifetime, though the mill which once stood at its side and supplied much of its inventory did not. Hats off to Renae Cimillo of Pleasant Valley for correctly identifying the colonial shopping center, which is now also home to a museum — although perhaps she should share her prize with her Girl Scout troop. I had the pleasure of taking my Girl Scouts on a tour of the beautiful museum, which is full of wonderful historic information. The bottom floor gives a detailed description of the mill site’s background, while the second floor houses many items that date back to the 1800s, like a school desk, wedding dress, baby carriage, etc. Take time out to visit this unique place!

I live about three miles from the old grist mill, which is now a museum that houses local artifacts and great photos of Pleasant Valley and surrounding areas.

Your March feature on Asian Food had me making a list of all the restaurants I want to visit. May I add two really good choices in Orange County? Saffron in Middletown, with its reliably good food in a beautiful atmosphere; and Citrus in New Windsor, which features amazing Indian and Thai food.

Sing Out
I was very pleased to see Rosemary O’Connor’s article on Taizé prayer services (March). My wife and I have been singing Taizé for more than 10 years with the Ulster Vicariate Choir. For years we sang at Mount Saint Alphonsus Retreat Center in Esopus until it closed; we now sing at Presentation Church in Port Ewen on the first Thursday of every month. And you are correct: All faiths are more than welcome. Thank you for sharing this article with your readers.

Corrections
In our April Religion feature, we incorrectly stated that St. Joseph’s School in Kingston had closed when the Archdiocese of New York reconfigured its elementary education system. But our readers sure let us know that the school, which is more than 100 years old, is still going strong. Look for more info on the institution in our June issue.
In our April Real Estate cover story, we incorrectly quoted Realtor Dianne Minogue. Real estate prices in markets like Florida and Las Vegas have shot down 50 percent (not 15 percent as we stated). In addition, her clients, the Ravers, are responsible for their own snow shoveling at their townhouse — but not other services.
