Where in the Hudson Valley…?

Write to us: edit@hvmag.com

In the November issue, we asked readers to locate a statue of Billy Costello. The boxing great — who lost only two matches throughout his 20-year career and was the defending World Boxing Council light-welterweight champion three times — grew up in Kingston, and the statue in his honor now stands in his home city near Colonel Chandler Drive and Broadway. Hats off to Diane DiLorenzo of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, who snagged this month’s prize. Click here to see if you know the whereabouts of a piece of locomotive art.

Thank you for telling me more about the man. I see the statue often, but haven’t stopped to read the sign.

Billy was a champion who was all heart and soul. My father and I always watched his fights on TV and we admired his courage and motivation.

I’m proud to say I was an original member of Billy’s fan club, Costello’s Crazies, as well as the fund-raising group, Friends of Bill Costello.

This is a great tribute to a hometown kid who never forgot where he came from.

I must have had my head in the sand, or I am too young, for I do not remember the [Storm King Mountain] controversy (“Storming Ahead,” October). I am so glad the mountain was preserved. I used to hike it and enjoy its beauty. I still enjoy it — I just don’t hike any more.
