Where in the Hudson Valley…?

Write to us: edit@hvmag.com

There are zillions of libraries in the Valley, but the one that caught our attention (and that of contest winner Jenn Heath of Pine Plains) is America’s smallest: the Book Booth in Clinton Corners. Ms. Heath was the first to pinpoint this eco-friendly telephone box-turned-reading nook — which is located next to the Wild Hive Café on Salt Point Turnpike — for our monthly prize. Click here for this month’s contest, where you can learn about an unusual doorway that has connections to the Underground Railroad.

I remember passing the library during a drive and wondering what it was. I think this is a great idea and a great way to inspire people to read.

Orange bites back

Regarding the op-ed submission from Rockland County resident Nancy Fowler (Mailbox, November): Why would she be concerned about more coverage of her county of residence, which she cites as being less than satisfactory? Does she not get the Rockland Journal News? That should tell her what’s up from Stony Point to Nyack! Short of that, she should be delighted to read your magazine to learn of opportunities in the surrounding counties.

Sing Sing sting

I was browsing through my new issue of Hudson Valley and came across the letter from Sandra Larkin from Salt Point (Mailbox, November), who was appalled that no one caught the error about the train from Times Square passing Sing Sing. Perhaps someone ought to remind her that it’s not only Metro-North that runs on those lines. Perhaps authors, historians, reporters, and editors are more well-traveled than she is.

The Popolopen Creek Suspension Bridge (“Hudson River Towns,” November) connects forts Montgomery and Clinton on opposite sides of Popolopen Creek — not the Hudson River, as previously stated.
