Celebrate the arrival of Hudson Valley craft fair season this weekend at St. Mary’s School in Dutchess County. The community fest tempts with free admission and vendors galore throughout the day. In addition to shopping from local artisans, visitors can also enter raffles, munch on specialty treats, and pick up a few goodies from the bake sale.
St. Columbanus Holiday Craft Fair
Church Hall, Cortlandt Manor
November 10, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Bring the little ones to this family-friendly craft fest for a full day of shopping, eating, and seasonal fun. Around 40 vendors will be onsite with festive, eye-catching wares to help locals get a head start on holiday gifting. During breaks from shopping, visitors can enter raffles, drawings, and sweepstakes and pick up a few sweets from the baked goods and luncheon booths. Kids, meanwhile, can say “Cheese!” alongside Elmo, Cinderella, Belle, and even Santa himself.
Furnace Fest
Copake Iron Works, Copake Falls
November 10, 12-2 p.m.
Want to beat the chill this weekend? Heat things up — literally — at the Copake Iron Works Furnace Fest. On Saturday, the Friends of Taconic State Park invite locals to venture to Copake Falls for a picnic lunch that includes picnics, raffles, and a cozy autumnal bonfire. In between snacks and songs, attendees can join docent-led tours of the Iron Works Museum. For little visitors, a scavenger hunt on the Iron Works heritage trail adds education and excitement to the afternoon.
Harvesting History Family Workshop
Clermont State Historic Site, Germantown
November 10, 1-3 p.m.
As part of its Harvesting History Family Workshop Series, Clermont State Historic Site hosts educational afternoon activities for families who want to learn more about the past and pick up a new skill or two. This Saturday, anyone who registers in advance can learn how to craft homemade candles with dried herbs. Once complete, the aromatic goodies make the perfect gift or keepsake. The workshop costs $10 per person, although children 12 and under are free.
Christmas Open House
Down to Earth Living, Pomona
November 10, 2 p.m.
Now that November is officially in swing, kick off the start of all things holiday in the Hudson Valley with Down to Earth’s themed open house on Saturday. The home décor and garden store turns into a winter wonderland with magical displays that channel the spirit of the most wonderful time of the year. Visitors can shop for special savings, participate in crafting workshops, enjoy refreshments, and even take pictures with Santa during one of his early appearances in the Valley.
47th Annual Train and Hobby Show
Mid-Hudson Civic Center, Poughkeepsie
November 11, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Rail fans, train buffs, and ferroequinologists alike can swing by the Mid-Hudson Civic Center on Saturday for a local railroad experience like no other. For its 47th year, the Train and Hobby Show packs 20,000-square feet with operating layouts, models, demonstrations, movies, and more. Collectors can shop from dealer tables or browse the white elephant stand for train-related bits and bobs. Refreshments and building clinics are also included in the lineup for the day.
