Irish Music Box

St. Patrick’s Day wouldn’t be complete without some Irish music to get your toes tapping. So we’ve compiled a list of local performances that showcase the best of traditional — and not-so-traditional — Irish tunes this March. Throw on your cable-knit sweater and grab your shillelagh; you won’t believe your Irish eyes (or ears) when you hear what the Valley’s got cooking for St. Patrick’s Day this year

March 1: This month the Palace Theatre presents the Irish Rovers, a Canadian-bred quartet with Irish roots, for a night of timeless and toe-tapping fun. Called the “international ambassadors of Irish music,” the Rovers have shared traditional classics and original favorites with the world for over four decades (3 p.m. $25 adults, $12.50 children). 19 Clinton Ave., Albany. 518-476-1000 or www.ticketmaster.com

March 8: The world-renowned Irish Tenors present an operatic array of well-known favorites and contemporary pieces at the Eisenhower Hall Theatre. Selections range from the traditional to the unexpected; the musical menu includes “My Wild Irish Rose,” “Danny Boy,” and a revamped version of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” (3 p.m. Call for ticket information). USMA campus, West Point. 800-233-3123 or www.ikehalltix.com

March 14: The Towne Crier Cafe’s annual St. Patrick’s Day tradition — The Clancy Tradition — is back. When Ireland’s Clancy family decided to form a band in the 1950s, Ireland got a taste of the clan’s expertly executed folk renditions. The family has since passed its Irish folk stylings to the next generation, who will be recording a live album at this performance (9 p.m. $25, $30 door). 130 Rte. 22, Pawling. 845-855-1300 or www.townecrier.com

March 14: Poetry lovers will appreciate “Songs of the Irish Poets,” presented by Caramoor’s Vocal Rising Stars residency. Along with traditional Irish songs, the program includes the lyricism of Ireland’s greatest writers (including James Joyce and W.B. Yeats) set to the music of Beethoven, Britten, Barber, and others (7:30 p.m. $25). 149 Girdle Ridge Rd., Katonah. 914-232-1252 or www.caramoor.org.
