Ink and Drink Up at Tattoos & Brews

Mill House Brewing Company will transform once again on Sunday for its second annual collaborative event

Wappiners Falls ink parlor Graceland Tattoo and seven-time Best of Hudson Valley winner Mill House Brewing Company may seem like an unlikely collab, but we can assure you that the business duo’s second annual Tattoos & Brews event this Sunday is an extraordinary celebration of culinary and visual arts.

For one day only, Mill House will be transformed into a tattoo parlor, with designs being done on the premises, with one caveat: Your carefully thought-up custom creation will have to wait for in-house appointments at Graceland. Instead, attendees will be able to take their pick from tattoo flash sheets drawn up special for the occasion and hand-designed by 13 local artists. You’ll find everything from floral outlines to skull and crossbones, and even a Hudson Valley inspired Mid-Hudson Bridge tattoo. Here’s a sneak peek at what will be available:

Not down to ink up? On-site staff will also be conducting piercings, although body-part limited, and Henna is available for those wary of more permanent pieces. And if you’re just coming for beer and good fun, there’s plenty to go around. Catch live entertainment from Kingston’s Lara Hope and the Ark-Tones, head to Handmade Together to make your own jewelry, or take tiny swigs of whiskey samples from Tuthilltown Spirits and Hillrock Estate distilleries. There will even be a cigar roller, as well as a barber from Pugsly’s in Kingston giving haircuts.

Take the edge off your piercing pain with good Mill House eats, like lemongrass and red curry-scented Thai sausages or a broccoli raab-topped burger. After all, our readers did pick the brewery for best comfort food in the Valley. How about a little push to get you going? Brew masters Larry Stock and Jamie Bishop will be pouring artisan-crafted ales all day.

Graceland owner Adam Lauricella notes that although the two businesses provide very different services, they’re both similar in hospitality and general vibe, and in turn, attract overlapping crowds. “People at Mill House and Graceland are kind of in the same fold,” he says, adding that he’s a fan of Mill House beers, serving them at his own bar, County Fare.

Tickets are $20 in advance, and can be picked up from either Graceland Tattoo or Mill House Brewing Company. But if you can’t stop by any earlier, tickets are available at the door for $25. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to The Church of St. Mary’s Food Pantry in Wappingers Falls to help feed the community’s impoverished. Fare includes entry and a collectors’ beer glass with one pour. The cost of all other services (i.e. tattoos, piercings, Henna) are additional, and all artists will be pricing out their own designs.
