At FDR’s request, architect Eric Kebbon designed the building to resemble the 1788 Dutchess County Courthouse. In fact, in order to inspire civic pride, it was Roosevelt’s wish that all buildings constructed under the New Deal’s Works Progress Administration be designed so as to approximate other, historic structures located nearby.
