For an intimate and romantic celebration, the duo rented an Airbnb in the Catskills, then hopped on a rope swing for a silly and sweet photo.

When Hudson Valley natives Maria and Kris decided to get married, they found the planning stage overwhelming. “We were not able to find places and things we really loved,” recalls Maria, who says they ultimately decided to elope, to get “back to the bare bones of what would make our wedding authentic, make it the most meaningful.” (The experience led her to found Adventure Elopements of the Hudson Valley, to help other couples do the same.)
“It was just my mom and my brother and his parents,” says Maria. “We rented an Airbnb in the Catskills. It was absolutely gorgeous. We were walking along this path in the woods, and we decided to get some pictures closer to the water, on stepping stones that led to the creek. [The rope swing] was hanging just nearby. Kris was like, ‘I’m totally going to do this.’ He went for it, hopped on, and launched himself. It was ridiculous.
“I told him, ‘Don’t die on our wedding day.’ We were already soaked because it was pouring rain the entire day, and both of us refused to go inside. I thought: Worst-case scenario, he’s not going to get more wet than he already is. It’s so, so him. We laugh hysterically every day to the point that I’m crying. On our wedding day, laughing and enjoying myself was one of the things I remember most.”
