Last Friday, dozens of local teen firefighters joined seasoned first responders and state fire department leaders for a day of hands-on training at the Hudson Fire Department’s 8th Annual Youth Day. The event was hosted by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) as part of its 144th statewide firefighter convention to promote youth interest in serving their communities.
Boys and girls ages 12 to 19 took part in various training activities, wearing full turn-out gear, despite the 100-degree heat. Other exercises included responding to mock emergency situations, extricating vehicles, and carrying heavy equipment up ladders and across terrain. Hopefully, the hose-relay competitions at least helped cool participants off. Check out the potential future heroes in action below.
