How to Sponsor a Rescue Animal: A Life-Changing Gift for Animal Lovers

Make a difference by doing something different this holiday season: Sponsor a rescue animal on behalf of your family and friends.

Pet sponsorship is an ideal gift for animal lovers, as it allows them to help and connect with animals in desperate need. Equine Advocates in Chatham and the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA in Hudson are always seeking support for the equines, felines, and canines under their care, and sponsorship is an effective way to do this.

Equine Advocates is dedicated to rescuing neglected and abused horses, donkeys, and mules from across the country. The 140-acre sanctuary currently has more than 80 equines available for sponsorship — from miniature donkeys to thoroughbred racehorses.

For a recurring monthly fee ($15-$100), your gift recipient gets a pack of goodies including photographs of their sponsored horse, a calendar, and more. And best of all, they can visit their chosen equine at the picturesque sanctuary as often as they wish. Other options include a one-off sponsorship of $50, or a monetary donation of your choice.

Your dollars can also make a huge difference for the cats and dogs rescued by the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA. The non-profit organization relies on sponsorships and donations to help thousands of abused and neglected animals each year. You can sponsor the cost of a pet’s adoption-related needs, such as vaccines, or donate a selection of much-needed items to the Society’s Wish List on behalf of a friend — anything from postage stamps to cat food.
