Nicole Frontera felt drawn to a helping profession from a young age. Initially, she wanted to be a physical therapist to aid athletes in recovering from sports injuries but ultimately decided to pursue a nursing degree instead. “I just love taking care of people,” says Frontera, who became a registered nurse in 2001 and then a family nurse practitioner in 2013. In the early part of her career, Frontera worked in an intensive care unit but made her way to aesthetics after being hired by a plastic surgeon. She was both captivated and fascinated by the power of cosmetic procedures to make people feel better about their looks and themselves. From there, she began thinking through a professional path focused squarely on self-care. In 2013, Frontera opened her first practice in Rockaway Beach, Queens, not far from where she’d grown up in Brooklyn—an area that was nearly decimated by Hurricane Sandy. “After the storm, residents were so tired and drained from dealing with their houses and properties that had been destroyed,” she says. “I wanted to create a place where people could take care of themselves, because that’s even more important during tough times.”
Fast forward through 10 busy years, and Frontera was ready to open a second location and expand her brand. Last fall, The Formula by Nicole Frontera opened on Purchase Street in Rye. Her logic? She had noticed over the years that as her Rockaway Beach practice grew by word of mouth, many people were coming all the way from Westchester. After doing some research and pounding the pavement to check out several different options, Frontera says, “Rye just felt right. The location made me more accessible to my existing clientele and allowed me to expand my reach to new people.”
Making people feel like the best version of themselves is the most amazing feeling.
So far, the most popular treatments have been Botox injections and signature glow treatments, which use a state-of-the-art Lutronic Ultra Laser and can be customized to remedy any complexion concerns (such as age spots, sun damage, and acne scarring) with no to moderate post-procedure downtime. To her joy, business is booming. “I never thought of myself as an entrepreneur, it just happened,” says Frontera. “Opening my own practice was what made sense for me as I made the move into aesthetics.” To stay current on the latest innovations in an always-changing industry, Frontera regularly attends professional conferences to learn about new techniques and treatments. “I also assist in plastic surgeries such as facelifts to deepen my understanding of the face from the inside out.” All of it helps her stay true to herself and her original goal of helping people. “Making people feel like the best version of themselves is the most amazing feeling,” she says. Talk about a beautiful thing.
