Good Housekeeping declared the Victorian castle resort to be one of the top destinations for family travel in the United States.

There’s no doubt that 2022 was a huge year for the Hudson Valley. In the fall alone, our region received praise from four major publications. First, the New York Times and Bon Appétit celebrated the culinary excellence of Café Mutton. Then, Architectural Digest included Cold Spring and Rhinebeck in its roundup of America’s most beautiful small towns. To round out the year, Conde Nast Traveler named the Hudson Valley a top place to visit, given the “burst of hospitality openings over the last decade,” our “reputation for its excellent culinary and shopping scenes,” and our newfound status as a “bonafide wellness destination,” thanks in part to such getaways as Wildflower Farms in Gardiner and Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz.

Most recently, Good Housekeeping put a spotlight on the Hudson Valley in its inaugural Family Travel Awards. In the exhaustive article, a panel of travel experts bestowed accolades to destinations in the United States, naming Mohonk Mountain House as a top retreat in the northeast. The “captivating Catskills castle,” the experts say, “looks like it was transported from the pages of a storybook, and, indeed, vacationing here will be the dream.”

We couldn’t agree more. The blurb about Mohonk Mountain House details its surrounding beauty—the “glacial” lake and Catskill mountains—as well as accommodations, dining, and special activities like the Junior Naturalist Program, allowing kids to go on “fossil hunts and guided nature walks.” On top of that, the resort is proximal to hiking trails in the Mohonk Preserve and popular towns like New Paltz and Woodstock, and it’s only 90 miles north of New York City, meaning city dwellers can pop upstate for a weekend of rest and relaxation at the Victorian castle resort.

Mohonk Mountain House has been owned and operated by the Smiley family since 1869. “We are thrilled to be honored during the publication’s first-ever Family Travel Awards,” says Barbara Stirewalt, vice president and general manager of the Mountain House. “As a family-owned resort, one of our main priorities is to continue introducing family-friendly offerings for guests of all ages to enjoy and to remain a destination for generations year after year.” For more information about booking a stay, head to the resort’s website.
