If you’ve driven along Route 9 in Wappingers Falls recently, chances are you’ve seen a very large, very bold red sign at the front of the Kohl’s parking lot. It seems to reveal no hints about the bitty building behind it, a building that is fast nearing completion. Instead of forecasting what’s to come or announcing a debut date, it raises eyebrows with two words:
Get ready.
Ready for what, you might ask? Ready for Ready.
Launching on February 15, Ready Coffee Co. will deliver its locally roasted, small-batch java to the Hudson Valley. Led by coffee-loving couple Emily Jordan and Jesse Barr, the business aims to bring community-minded drinks to rival the feel and price point of popular coffee chains like Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks.
“We’re trying to bring really good local craft coffee with a customer service feel,” explains Jordan, who has a background in product marketing. She and Barr signed onto the project nearly three years ago while still living in Oregon, where Barr was heavily involved in the local roasting scene. After meeting with Jed Bonnem, a longtime New York resident with Oregon roots and a passion for great coffee, they decided to partner and jump on the chance to bring a fresh take on everyone’s favorite morning brew to the region.
After debating where to set up shop, they fell for the Hudson Valley and, more specifically, Wappingers Falls after learning more about the area’s vibrant culture and thriving craft beverage scene. For the build, they chose to collaborate with R.L. Baxter Building Corp. to create the building’s contemporary, eye-catching design.
When Ready Coffee Co. opens its doors to the public on February 15, it will serve coffee that uses beans roasted at its headquarters on Myers Corners Road in Wappingers Falls. In addition, it will debut specialty lattes, mochas, and iced, blended, and cold brew coffees to satisfy caffeine cravings. On the coffee-free side of things, an assortment of teas, along with chai, matcha, smoothies, hot chocolate, and Ready’s signature line of energy drinks will be available. All the black coffee drinkers out there, take note — a medium cuppa will run you $2.50.
“It’s serious coffee, but fun,” Jordan enthuses.
With a prime location on South Road near Poughkeepsie, Fishkill, and the New Hamburg train station, Ready is ideal for a.m. commuters who need a java fix or after-school shoppers on the way to the Poughkeepsie Galleria.
In the future, Ready also hopes to expand to Fishkill. While the development is still in the planning phase, the coffee company has its eye on a space in the CVS plaza on Route 52.
