When developing what would become Gather Greene, a luxury getaway and event space nestled between the Catskill and Berkshire mountains, co-owners Amna Ali and Jackie Brown hoped to showcase the region’s beauty in the way of a “fresh, modern” experience. Both women had earned graduate degrees in interior design at Pratt—a top program for budding aesthetes, which happens to be where the duo first met—and planned events for such institutions as the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Since its soft launch in late 2018, Ali and Brown’s collaborative endeavor has become a prime choice for weddings, events, and getaways in Greene County. Gather Greene centers around the stately 4,000-square-foot pavilion, complete with a full catering kitchen, bathrooms, meeting suites, and an upstairs lounge where guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast each morning. What’s more, the Gather Greene team loves to collaborate with local businesses like Kinderhook’s 2 Note—they provide the soaps—and Hunt & Harvest, a farm-to-table catering company.

In the nippier months, the grounds are a haven for small groups and individuals looking to escape daily life. Their main season, however, is spring to fall, during which the focus is large events and weddings. And if there’s one thing Ali and Brown love, it’s working with spouses-to-be to manifest their dream wedding. Want to exchange vows in the middle of the onsite quarry pond surrounded by your loved ones treading in canoes? Wonderful. Prefer to say “I do” beneath a forested canopy? Perfect. Oh, you want to have a silent disco beneath a starlit sky? You dream it, they make it happen.

A couple hundred yards away from the pavilion, the site’s 17 cabins sit along a picturesque ridge. The cabins, constructed from natural cedar wood outside and pine inside, offer a warm contrast with surrounding verdure. Each is outfitted with heating and cooling systems, outlets, a coffee and tea nook, and a mini refrigerator. A desktop juts out of one wall, providing just enough space for a laptop, notebook, and your cuppa. Another wall is made entirely of glass.

For those in search of a quiet, contemplative space to work on a novel, artwork, or project proposal, the cabin serves as a makeshift office with a million-dollar view of the Berkshire Mountains. As day breaks, the interior of the structure is washed with golden light; looking out at the mountain ridge in the distance, guests may begin their day by watching the morning sun ascend the horizon. These little spaces evoke a sense of gezellig—that’s a Dutch term that loosely translates to “gather in a cozy environment.” (It’s not exactly hygge, but it’s pretty darn close.) “You really get this treehouse feeling when you are inside and find yourself looking out into the canopy of trees,” note Ali and Brown.

At Gather Greene, it may feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere, but that’s far from reality. In fact, the site is proximal to some of the swankiest cities in the Hudson Valley, namely Hudson and Catskill. Olana State Historic Site is just a stone’s throw away, promising a day trip comprised of art history and scenic lookouts.

Still, if you prefer to stay on the grounds, there is plenty to do. This season, Gather Greene is rolling out a snowshoeing program which allows guests to explore over 60 acres of its land. Conversely, you could kick back and take advantage of the “bonfire concierge service” at any point during your stay. The views are enchanting year-round, but there’s something about soaking in a sunset with a glass of wine in hand and a fire warming your toes that elevates the experience. It’s the little things in life—wouldn’t you say? “We designed Gather Greene so our guests can tap into a sense of togetherness that’s innate,” says Brown. “Gathering around fires, being together in these beautiful, natural spaces—there’s something joyful in these connections.”
