Dutchess Roots Breaks Ground as Poughkeepsie’s First Licensed Dispensary

Poughkeepsie’s first licensed recreational cannabis dispensary, Dutchess Roots is set to open in the spring of 2025.

As an ever-expanding fraction of Dutchess County, the Town of Poughkeepsie is home to many businesses, development projects, and restaurants. Now, a new addition is set to join Route 9’s growing plaza at South Road Crossing, right next to Buff City Soap and the recently announced wellness studio, The Yoga House. Dutchess Roots, which introduces a new business category to the town, paves the way as Poughkeepsie’s first New York State licensed recreational cannabis dispensary.

Led by development company Cameron Group, LLC, the new endeavor officially broke ground on November 25 and is projected to open its newly constructed, freestanding store in the spring of 2025. Dutchess Roots is keen on creating an engaging, educational, and safe cannabis retail environment as the premier source of cannabis products in the Hudson Valley.

“I congratulate Dutchess Roots on their groundbreaking,” says Town of Poughkeepsie supervisor Rebecca Edwards. “As the town works to ensure that cannabis sales are regulated and safe, it’s terrific to see Dutchess Roots leading the way.”

Ahead of its opening, the dispensary has stated its commitment to a three-pronged mission of elevating the retail cannabis industry, educating consumers, and integrating itself into the Dutchess County community. At Dutchess Roots, every customer and curious passer-through will feel welcome, safe, and cared for in the 2,700-square-foot space that offers a simple, clean, and professional atmosphere.

“Up until this point we had always steered away from legal cannabis in our projects, but after meeting with the team behind Dutchess Roots, and after careful consideration, we decided it was the right fit,” says Kevin Langan, leasing and development partner at Cameron Group, LLC. “We’re confident that Dutchess Roots will operate an upscale, professional dispensary focused on educating its customers and providing a safe, high-quality product to adults ages 21 and older. We know that it will be a great addition to South Road Crossing and look forward to the grand opening this spring.”

Whether visitors are seasoned cannabis enthusiasts or new to the plant altogether, the new dispensary will offer a variety of services for locals of all legal ages to enjoy. From ordering online through the business’s website for pickup to engaging in a thoughtful conversation with an onsite expert, customers can look forward to a personalized service experience from Dutchess Roots that’s designed to meet their needs.

“Communities across New York State have reaped the economic benefits of cannabis retailers,” says Michael Oates, president and CEO of the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation. “These businesses not only create local employment opportunities but generate tax revenue that can be used to support town and county-wide initiatives. I look forward to personally welcoming Dutchess Roots to the Town of Poughkeepsie and seeing its impact on the local and regional economy.”

Dutchess Roots is located at 2615 South Road in Poughkeepsie.
