Culture, Close to Home

Seven Valley communities host monthly arts events and activities

Art Along the Hudson, a regional collaboration that promotes arts and cultural activities in Hudson Valley towns, kicked off its fifth year this past summer by adding three new cities to its repertoire. The communities of Kingston, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh — and now Hudson, Catskill, and Rhinebeck — celebrate the arts on rotating Saturdays each month, year-round. The programs, which help strengthen and build awareness of each city’s art initiatives, feature a wide breadth of art forms — from museum and gallery exhibits to music, theater, dance, and poetry. Special events include street fairs, parades, sculpture exhibits, and art and history tours. Events take place on the first Saturday of the month in Kingston and Hudson; on the second Saturday in Beacon; on the third Saturday in Catskill, Poughkeepsie, and Rhinebeck; and Newburgh lights up on the last Saturday. Upcoming activities in the newly participating towns include Catskill Point’s Riverside Arts/Crafts Market (through October); the ArtsWalk in Hudson (October 9-13); and art exhibits on view at a number of Rhinebeck galleries such as Gallery Lodoe on Montgomery Street.
