Cornwall Named One of the Best Trick-Or-Treating Towns in America

An Orange County town receives top marks for its “walkability” and safety for candy collectors

For the second year in a row, the Hudson Valley has been featured in The Daily Meal’s “Best Towns for Trick-or-Treating.” Cornwall — the Valley’s the sole representative on the list — nabbed first place last year and dropped to eighth this time around. The site considers everything from events, decorations, candy, costumes in order to compile what it considers the best (and safest) neighborhoods in the U.S.

The Daily Meal attributes Cornwall’s “walkability,” its relative safety for children, and its atmosphere as major reasons for its award.

Contributing to the town’s appeal is a haunted attraction dubbed the Corn House of Horrors. According to local folklore, infamous thief and smuggler Thaddeus Corn was killed during a failed attempt to free a prisoner he and his family were holding hostage in their basement one Halloween. (The prisoner mysteriously disappeared in the kerfuffle). Legend has it that the ghosts of Corn and his family return to the house every Halloween to terrorize passerby. Suitable for all ages and featuring attractions like the Corn Family Asylum, the Corn House is a must-see for scare-seekers.
