Cathy Meyer, proprietor of Curvy Consignments Plus in Wappingers Falls, is not your average retailer. Nor is her shop an average store.
Meyer has decades of corporate and human resources experience under her belt, and her sincere compassion shows in the boutique she’s run since March 2015.
So in addition to browsing the beautiful inventory — half pristine consignments and half new — shoppers enjoy monthly makeover events ranging from personal styling, hair re-do, and makeup tips. Meyer has also sponsored facial nights and waxing nights, where women pay via donation to local causes.
“We’ve got to give back,” Meyer stresses. “We are here to make a difference.”
Since opening, Curvy Consignments Plus has made a difference to more than 2,000 clients, some of whom had arrived at the door in tears after unsuccessful experiences at traditional stores.
Besides offering fashions in sizes 14 through 36 (large through 6X), Meyer and assistant manager Kathy Craven treat their customers like family. Free coffee is available in the hospitality corner at the front of the store. Comfy leather couches, a DVD library and a flat-screen TV offer respite for adult and child shopping companions while the woman in their life shops.
Curvy Consignments Plus sells designer and non-designer professional clothing, casual wear, lingerie and bras (brand-new), dresses for all occasions, even bridal gowns. The “one-stop shop” also offers accessories of all sorts, and the store’s ample inventory makes it fun to browse.
Meyer also has a unique service for entrepreneurs — each month, a glass showcase in the store is dedicated to merchandise from an artist, direct-sales consultant, or similar business owner. Meyer then hosts a party to show off the products, and offers raffle prizes to customers who earned a ticket for each $10 spent in her shop during that month.
