City of Newburgh Children’s Summer Film Festival

Bring the kids to Newburgh for a free family flick that everyone will love. This week, the fest will show The Lorax, the Dr. Seuss classic that first hit the silver screen in 2012. Show up at 8 p.m. to set up chairs and blankets and take part in the community activities. The movie itself will begin as soon as the sun sets.
First Friday Clam Bake

Independence Day may fall on a Wednesday this year, but you can keep the holiday vibes going into the weekend with this celebratory clambake on Friday. Diners can lounge by the Hudson River as they chow down on classic Americana fare. Seafood is the name of the game, so expect everything from Blue Point oysters and clams to Maine lobsters and mussels. This is part of the First Friday series, which also includes family-friendly activities and live music, hosted by the Saugerties Steamboat Co.

Rhinebeck Summer Breeze Weekend

Rhinebeck’s community celebration, which resembles a First Friday or Second Saturday, takes place over the course of the weekend. Enjoy music from street performers, venture through open doors to the shops in town, or explore the top of Burger Hill and the observation deck at the Ferncliff Fire Tower. If you’re in town for the Hudson Valley Hot Air Balloon Festival, you can make the walk from the Dutchess Country Fairgrounds right into town or take advantage of the complimentary shuttle service.
Antique Car Show
Locust Grove Estate, Poughkeepsie
July 8, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Summer in the Hudson Valley wouldn’t be complete without a trip to at least one local car show. This Sunday’s event at Locust Grove brings more than 300 cars to the historic estate. Arrive early to get a glimpse of the most cars, then enjoy lunch in the air conditioned dining area and music onsite throughout the day. Admittance is $8 per person, and children under 6 are free.​
