Celebrate Life Half Marathon 2013: Race in Rock Hill, Sullivan County Benefits Cancer Patients and Survivors

Life support: Runners prepare for the 10th annual Celebrate Life Half Marathon on March 10, 2013 in Rock Hill

On March 10, upwards of 1,000 runners, walkers, and supporters will gather in Rock Hill for the Celebrate Life Half Marathon. Now in its 10th year, the race is put on by Citizens Reunited to Overcome Cancer — an organization that collects funds for cancer patients and survivors in Orange and Sullivan Counties — and has raised $200,000 in donations to assist more than 200 individuals over the years; many current runners have previously received some of those benefits themselves. The Motivational Mile, a mile-long stretch where names of those afflicted by cancer are displayed, is a poignant section of the race and is passed twice over the course of the day. Many local restaurants are partnering with the race to offer either discounts on meals or complimentary beverages to race participants.
