Carmel and East Fishkill Among List of Safest U.S. Cities

ADT ranked the “Top 25 Safest Cities” in the United States — and two Hudson Valley communities made the cut

In ADTsecurity.com’s ranking of the “Top 25 Safest Cities” in the United States, two Hudson Valley communities — East Fishkill and Carmel — made the cut.

ADTsecurity.com analyzed the 2013 FBI Uniform Crime Report in order to determine which cities had the lowest number of violent crimes and property crimes in relation to their population. Each city earned a “Safety Score” based on a scale of 100, with 100 representing a crime-free town.

East Fishkill, with a population of 29,315, was ranked 21 on the “safest cities” list. The town earned a score of 91.7, with only nine violent crimes and 165 property crimes in 2013. ADTsecurity.com mentions IBM’s Hudson Valley Research Park as one of the reasons East Fishkill is such an appealing place to live, since it adds a touch of modernity to the town’s many historical sites.

Carmel was next on the list with a rank of 22 out of 25 and a “Safety Score” of 91.4. Based on the population of 34,462, there were only 0.89 burglaries for every 1,000 residents. The city was also praised for its “outstanding schools” and high student achievement. (Hudson Valley Magazine also named Carmel one of the “Top Towns” in the Hudson Valley in 2012.)
