An Explosive Ending Makes This Wedding a Night to Remember

The décor for this fete at Rye’s Westchester Country Club was inspired by a kitchen design — yes, a kitchen! “When I first start talking about design with my couple, I always ask about home design,” says event planner Ashley Douglass of Ashley Douglass Events. “Jordan and Eric’s home is evidentially gray like mine. Jordan also loves marble as much as I, and the blues and the lavenders seemed like a good fit with the grays and white. We didn’t want a color that popped out too much. We wanted to keep it modern and soft.”

And modern and soft it was. Clean grays and whites made up the main color palette, joined by hints of soft colors throughout the floral arrangements and lighting. The light fixtures in the reception tent evoked the geometric light fixtures from an inspirational kitchen photo. Lounge areas were set up to create “living spaces,” just like in a home, and there was no shortage of personal touches.

Lining the walkway into the ceremony were family photos from previous generations. Jordan’s father and grandfather walked her down the aisle, which she said was “one of the most special moments of my life.”

For the ceremony décor, Jordan wanted something more organic than the look of the reception. “The juxtaposition of the chuppah, very organic in feel, along with all the chandeliers in the room worked well and was beautiful,” says Douglass. “We covered the windows on the side with blackout shades with pretty curtains on top to help with lighting and make the space feel intimate.”

The look and feel of the space were not the only personalized aspects of the ceremony; the bride and groom  wrote the entire ceremony. “Since we both come from different faiths, we wanted to incorporate the best of both of our religions,” says bride Jordan. 

“With the help of my childhood rabbi and Eric’s childhood pastor, we were able to create the perfect ceremony.”

For the reception, an open tent was used, which created an ethereal look and feel, and every detail was carefully planned: A mixologist created signature drinks; guests were asked to have their photo taken, which was put onto a crystal and given to them at the end of the evening; each guest received a handwritten note from the couple thanking them for being a part of their big day; a monogram was created and used throughout the evening; and fireworks ended the night with a boom.

The couple’s dog Tucker, who is a huge part of their lives, was also incorporated into the day. “He is too rambunctious, so we could only bring him into the wedding for a few photos after the ceremony,” says Jordan. To make him a bigger part of the celebration, “a watercolor picture of Tucker was on the back of our wedding program, some of the cocktail napkins had his face printed on them, and there was a beautiful backdrop of Tucker’s face in our cocktail hour, which is now framed and hung in our first home together.”

The florist, Katherine of KD&J Botanica, added pillows and throw blankets to the lounge areas to give them a finishing touch. She also added an array of votives, the marble table numbers, the chargers, and the right amount of color inside the flowers.

Jordan said she could not have asked for more. “My favorite part of the reception was pretty much the entire night — from the first dances, to the speeches, to our dinner to dancing,” says Jordan. “One thing that really stood out to me was when our photographer and videographer pulled us away from dinner to take sunset photos around the venue. Eric and I walked around the entire venue together and were able to take in everything just the two of us. We were able to see all of our family and friends that were there to celebrate us — pretty surreal!”
