8th Annual Beacon Barks Parade

Share

Calling all dog lovers! Beacon Barks’s eighth annual parade — held in celebration of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day — rolls into town on April 26. Grab your pup and join thousands of pet owners for a stroll down the city’s Main Street. Local shops and restaurants open their doors to participants (both canine and otherwise), and a variety of service providers, such as veterinarians, groomers, and veterinary acupuncturists, offer information and advice on caring for your loyal friend.

Entertainment comes in the form of live music performances by doo-wop and folk groups. “There’s a great spirit in this festival,” notes Libby Faison, owner of the Beacon Barkery and a parade organizer. “It brings families and the community together.” It even brings families together with new pets: Each year local shelters bring adoptable animals to the event, and “many adoptions start that day,” Faison says. The best part? All proceeds raised through raffles, T-shirt and book sales are donated to the Dutchess County SPCA. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Lower Main St., Beacon
