Every Brilliant Thing

Denizen Theatre, New Paltz​
April 5-28

Just in time for the start of spring in the Hudson Valley, Denizen Theatre debuts a new play to mark the season. Dubbed “Every Brilliant Thing,” the work is written by Duncan Macmillian and directed by Eva Tenuto, the co-founder of TMI Project, a non-profit organization that focuses on community and healing through storytelling. The play, which opens on April 5 and runs until April 28, tells the story of what it’s like to cope with a parent’s mental health.

Catskill Animal Sanctuary Opening Weekend

Head out to Catskill Animal Sanctuary this weekend to reunite with all your favorite four-legged friends. On both Saturday and Sunday, sanctuary educators will bring visitors on tours around the property to meet all the affectionate animals onsite. Family tours take place at 11 a.m., and day passes are available for anyone who wants to spend extra time at the Saugerties hotspot.

 

Quilt Show

Calling all Hudson Valley crafters! This weekend, the Quilt Show takes over the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy for a full weekend of craftsmanship, shopping, and demonstrations. Whether you ooh and ahh over the more than 200 quilts on display, catch a demonstration with a local expert, or enter to win one of the raffles, you’ll love the opportunity to ogle the talent that’s hidden within the Hudson Valley.

Spring Children’s Tea

Brinckerhoff House Historic Site, Hopewell Junction
April 6, 1 p.m.

Stop by Brinckerhoff House on Saturday for a kid-friendly afternoon of games and teatime treats. The historic house will have games for little ones, plus tea, hot chocolate, and desserts for snacking. As a special treat, children’s author and illustrator Pat Schories, who is best known for the Biscuit series, hosts a fun-for-all presentation as well.

 

 

Reel Expressions International Film Festival

Bardavon 1869 Opera House, Poughkeepsie
April 6, 5-7:30 p.m.

Now in its seventh year, the Reel Expressions International Film Festival returns to celebrate the emerging filmmakers both in the Valley and across the globe. Hosted by The Art Effect, the fest features 15 films that made the cut from more than 100 total submissions. At the end of the screenings, select winners will be announced and prizes awarded. Tickets are free for attendees under 21, with a $10 suggested donation for adults.

 

Springfest Street Fair

Main St & Broadway, Nyack​
April 7, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Celebrate the arrival of warm-ish weather in the Hudson Valley at Nyack’s family-friendly street fair. The all-day event features over 300 vendors who will bring arts and crafts, jewelry, clothing, accessories, and food to Main Street and Broadway in town. If you do plan to go, make sure to leave the pets at home, since the Village of Nyack doesn’t allow them at the fest.

 

 

Meet and Greet With Blogger Gina Homolka

Le Creuset, Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, Central Valley
April 7, 2 p.m.

Love whipping up new recipes in the kitchen? Carve out your Sunday afternoon to attend this meet and greet with popular food blogger and cookbook author Gina Homolka. The creator behind books like One and Done, Fast and Slow and The Skinnytaste Cookbook, Homolka will be at Le Creuset to sign copies of her books and chat with visitors about her secrets to culinary success.
