Bring the family to Catskill Animal Sanctuary on Saturday for a new twist on “Turkey Day” that celebrates local turkeys and farm animals. Visitors can paint pumpkins, jam out to live music, and loosen up with some outdoor yoga. As for eats, vegan cooking demos with free samples will take place throughout the day, while The Cinnamon Snail, Yeah Dawg, Rockin’ Raw, and Healthy Gourmet to Go will provide additional fall treats. Sheep and Wool Festival

For one weekend only, the New York Sheep and Wool Festival returns to Rhinebeck. The crafting paradise takes visitors through every stage of wool and yarn production, from animal shows to sheep shearing to dying. Also on the fairgrounds, a farmers’ market, wine tasting tables, workshops, and cooking demonstrations provide an endless number of things to do throughout the day. Community Clay Day
Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory, Poughkeepsie

Stop by the Underwear Factory on the third Saturday of the month to try your hand at a new craft. The community printmaking session welcomes all ages and abilities, so don’t be shy to ask questions while you’re there. Registration is required, and the cost to attend is $6 or pay-what-you-can. If you can’t book a slot this time around, never fear. The creative Poughkeepsie space hosts an ever-changing lineup of artistic things to do and learn.
FilmColumbia
The Crandell Theatre, Chatham

The season for all things film in the Hudson Valley continues on Saturday when FilmColumbia kicks off for a week of independent and international screenings at The Crandell Theatre. The opening party takes place on Saturday at 6 p.m., and a select number of post-screening Q&A opportunities occur at the theater throughout the week. The festival spotlights 50 films and documentaries featuring a medley of up-and-coming actors and notable names like Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Viola Davis, and Melissa McCarthy. While the festival is the main attraction, the chance to visit the historic Crandell Theatre is a treat in itself.
Fall Family Fun Fest
The Ashokan Center, Olivebridge

Venture to the scenic Ashokan Center on Sunday for a fun-filled day in the Catskills. Live music performances from folk and storytelling duo Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, eastern European ensemble Caprice Rouge, and acoustic quartet Wind & Stone get the party started. On the activities end of things, apple cidering, nature hikes, face and pumpkin painting, and family crafts add to the festive fall experience.
House of Horrors Film Festival
Carmel Cinema, Carmel

With the spooky season in full swing in the Hudson Valley, the Hudson Valley Horror Fields and the VOB Film Festival partner to host the first House of Horrors Film Festival. The fearsome flicks in the series are a surprise, although the highlight of the night is a 50th anniversary screening of “Night of the Living Dead.” Local vendors and raffles add to the chilling, thrilling evening.
