Ulster County Fair

Summer wouldn’t be complete with a trip to the Ulster County Fair. Since 1886, the local tradition has brought families and friends together over animal exhibits, fun-filled rides, artisan demonstrations, and carnival treats. With performances each night and entertainment scheduled during the daytime hours, the Ulster fair is the place to be this week.

O+ Festival

Waryas Park, Main St, Poughkeepsie

Poughkeepsie welcomes an influx of creativity on Friday when the O+ Festival makes a temporary home by the river. Look forward to a medley of musical talents, from hip-hop and reggae to bluegrass and electronic. In addition, attendees can check out the wellness EXPO+, which spotlights the variety of health and wellness services available locally. Whatever you do, don’t pass up the chance to take in the colorful mural at the Poughkeepsie Gateway (the Route 9 underpass).  Created by Risa Tochigi, otherwise known as boogieREZ, the new artwork is a wonderful dose of color by the train station.

 

Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice

For its ninth season, the Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice showcases a stellar lineup of performers. Whether you jam to gospel tunes or opera, you’ll find something to love at this vibrant festival. Don’t miss out on the feature event, an interpretation of the acclaimed opera, Carmen. Wassaic Project Summer Festival

In honor of its tenth annual festival, the Wassaic Project packs Saturday with back-to-back shows from six bands and 10 dance groups. Filmgoers will want to check out the short movie screenings, while aspiring artists can swing by Change of State, the Project’s summer exhibition. Bring the kids for art projects at the Art Nest and face painting on Maxon Mills’ porch.
