Online database, Niche recently released their 2018 top schools list, and 38 Hudson Valley school districts ranked within the top 100 in New York State.
Rankings were based on an analysis of each school’s academic and student life, with information obtained by the U.S. Department of Education, test scores, college data, and input submitted by Niche users. A series of factors were considered, each holding a different weight of importance in determining the school’s ranking.
Heavily weighted factors included a standardized test-based academic grade (50 percent weight), Niche-initiated survey grades for overall experience and culture & diversity (10 percent, each), as well as a teacher grade based on teacher salary, absenteeism, state test results, and a Niche survey that polled students and parents (15 percent). Other factors like clubs & activities, health & safety, resources & facilities, and sports were also considered, but held less weight (2.5-5 percent) in the final ranking process.
