Mother’s day is this Sunday. What’s currently going through your mind? Let me guess — the plans you need to arrange? The gifts you need to purchase? How about the lunch reservations you still need to make?
As women, we enjoy giving, especially if we are mothers. Some of us may even give so much to the point that we become exhausted at the end of the day.
Work-life balance is a topic that we all experience, especially for moms. Whether it be taking the kids to soccer practice or cleaning up the house because the in-laws are visiting. We want to do everything well, and sometimes we’re left feeling burned out. Personally, I know how it feels to have to juggle so many different balls at one time.
My husband and I just found out that I’m pregnant, and you can only imagine what’s going through my mind. With managing my own business, being a wife, and getting ready for motherhood, work-life balance has now become a top priority.
I’m conducting a workshop at the MidHudson Regional Hospital on May 14 for Women’s Health Week. In this interactive presentation, I’ll share my personal strategies and tips that women can implement to help maintain a healthier work-life balance.
I won’t give it all away, but below are the three strategies that I’ll be sharing during the workshop:
When you think about what’s really important in your life, what comes to mind? Values are the foundation upon which you build your life. Without knowing what you value most — family? career? health? — stress can easily take over. One question that I like to ask my attendees is: “If you only had one week to live, how would you live your life?” This simple question will allow you to dig deep and figure out what really is important to you.
We all have 24 hours, seven days a week. Why is it that some people seem to accomplish what they want while others don’t? The answer is quite simple: it’s how they handle their time! Think about the day-to-day activities and tasks that you do. Write it all down and prioritize what is first, second, third, and so on. Make sure that you always accomplish your highest-priority tasks first thing in the morning.
This is probably my favorite strategy when it comes to achieving work-life balance. Personally, I really need time for myself every morning. My husband, John, knows to give me at least 30 minutes in which I meditate and do yoga. When it comes to prioritizing your days, make sure that you include “me” time!
