Renowned architect Marcus Reynolds designed and built the Tiger House at the start of the 20th century. Reynolds was best known for his design of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad Company Building in downtown Albany. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Jones, the heirs to a prominent soap fortune, commissioned the project as their hunting lodge. When Reynolds completed the home in 1906, it was one of the largest and most striking structures Hudson had ever seen.

Until the 1980s, the home remained a private residence. After that, it had a brief stint as an upscale nursing home. Next, extensive renovations brought the Tiger House online as a bed-and-breakfast concept with event venue capabilities. Notable figures like musician Lou Reed were rumored to have stayed here. Finally, all of the history and majesty of this Hudson beauty is available to own.

The home’s all-brick exterior displays exquisite flourishes common to the Jacobean style. Elements of the Tiger House’s striking façade include flat roofs with Tudor arches, manicured gardens, and an emphasized symmetry. It is nearly impossible to miss this one-of-a-kind work of art when visiting one of the Hudson Valley’s hottest cities. Marble window mantles add a special flair. Elaborate greenery surrounds the building. Jaunts into town are simple with the property’s prime location on Allen St.

Inside, grand foyers, large staircases, and intricate designs await. A spectrum of beautiful American wood elements draw the eye in infinite directions. Looking up, the ceiling features American chestnut and walnut panels. Down below, maple and oak hardwood flooring produce a marvelous effect. Oak especially was a material of choice when this masterpiece was designed, and heritage oak furniture appears throughout the residence.

Explore more than 7,500 sq ft of living space. The central reception room invites guests into the house, or the owners back after an outing. Original double-hung windows bathe spaces in natural light. Plus, the home’s grand “entry salon” is illuminated by a Tiffany glass skylight. This entryway certainly makes a first impression.

Next, admire the formal dining room. This is one of the best examples of the Tiger House’s many fine details. A wooden fireplace keeps diners cozy during the cold winter months, while lovely stained glass windows warm up the space during spring and summer. Similarly, views of fall foliage make any autumn meal noteworthy. Ornate paneling and curved walls stand out as especially breathtaking elements.
