Enter through the property’s long, gated drive into the home’s sprawling open floor plan. At first glance, you’ll spot many original details that have been preserved and steeped in nearly two hundred years of history. Exposed timber beams loom above practically every room, and a grand stone hearth built by the original owner and his children surrounds the living room fireplace.

In the kitchen, white subway tiles, sleek custom cabinetry, and honed stone counters breathe new life into the space while still maintaining a rustic farmhouse feel. Right off the kitchen, a four-fold door opens the dining room onto the backyard deck, making for a seamless transition between interior and exterior living spaces.

The master suite bathroom offers spacious double sinks, a sleek, frameless glass shower, and Moroccan-inspired tiled flooring that’s subtle, but still manages to make a statement.

The 2016 renovation and redesign was a full-gut project led by architecture and design firm, FÅz Design. Though based in NYC, the firm has completed many local projects in Rhinebeck, Hudson, and Saugerties, with others currently in the works.

“One of the major goals of the project was to hold onto the historic Hudson Valley farmhouse vernacular while providing modern and updated niceties/amenities for the home owner,” said Fauzia Khanani, founding principal of FÅz Design. “It was an exercise in trying to balance a rustic, almost-rudimentary building palette with more refined, clean materials and products. It’s a tricky mix but I think we were able to achieve it.”
