Milne Antiques and Design is an antiques store that’s not just an antiques store. It’s a design shop that’s more than the typical design shop. It’s so unique that it almost defies description.
The 6,800 sq ft, woman-owned business at 81 Broadway on the historic Kingston waterfront is welcoming — from its big-windowed storefront, with enticing things like old milk jugs and beautifully preserved furniture, all the way to its elevated rear room, where you’ll find textiles, paintings, and other antique goods.
The stock is wide-ranging, and includes 1800s-era hand-stitched samplers, vintage glass bottles, and old service-station signs. In fact, Rebekah Milne’s inventory of 18th- and 19th-century items is so expansive and authentic that she readily rents products for use in movie sets, television shows, and special events like weddings.
If you don’t see something you like, arrange for Milne Antiques and Design to source it, or even to make it for you. Impressive live-edge tables and bars, other furniture, and restorations are made at Milne’s other location at 72 Franklin St in Kingston, with 7,200 sq ft of warehouse and workshop space. Milne’s design consultants also do onsite home and corporate decorating and design.
Milne cares about the provenance of the goods: as an example, she proudly shares the origins of the shop’s Broadway building from its beginning as a ship-engine repair shop, to an auto laundry, to the Kingston laundry, to its current incarnation — while keeping the structure’s 1860s character.
