Millspaugh Furniture House is celebrating a huge milestone this year — 160 years of business in the Hudson Valley. Today they are still inspired by the standards established by their founder TL Millspaugh back in the late 1800s, including good old-fashioned customer service.
Millspaugh started as a single storefront in Walden. It has since grown to three stores, including one in Poughkeepsie and one in Warwick.
“We’ve grown and survived many trying business environments throughout our history,” says Keith Millspaugh, a fifth-generation owner. “Think of the manufacturing changes and the evolution of transportation, and imagine trying to survive the Great Depression as well as two World Wars. During these wars furniture factories produced war material, leaving retailers with very little inventory to survive. Consider going from the Pony Express times to the birth of the telephone and Internet. By weaving the raising of our family with our business, Millspaugh Furniture has effectively created a continuous understanding of furniture and customers.”
