SunCommon: Local Solar Done Right

As one of the most tenured local solar companies in the Hudson Valley, we’re deeply committed to these beautiful communities in which we live and work. We’ve probably crossed paths with you at the grocery store, the farmers’ market, or our kids’ soccer games. Being a good neighbor means building trust and showing up when it matters most, which is why, at SunCommon, we put customer experience at the forefront of our work.

Over the years, we’ve dialed in our process to provide a seamless experience for our customers. From initial conversations to final install, we take care of every step and lend our expertise to make your solar journey as smooth as possible.

Solar Your Way

Going solar always starts with a no-cost consultation, either virtual or in person, with one of our knowledgeable Solar Home Advisors. We’ll discuss your current and future electricity usage, and from there we’ll be able to estimate the number of solar panels you’ll need and give you an initial price quote. At this point in your solar journey, we also want to learn what your goals and motivations are for going solar. Interested in reducing your carbon footprint on behalf of the planet? Or stabilizing your monthly electricity costs? Maybe you want to increase your home’s resiliency by adding an energy storage system? Whatever your goals, we want to help you meet them.

Tech Specs & Regs

Next, we’ll send a Solar Evaluator to your home to map the path of the sun and take note of any trees or structures that might shade your solar system. They’ll check out your electrical panel and, if you’re going with a roof-mounted system, inspect your attic to make sure your roof is in good shape. All that technical info then goes to our team of Solar Engineers who will create a final design for your solar system.

In addition to all the calculations our engineers need to work through, there are also utility requirements and property setbacks to consider. In New York State, every municipality has different regulations for installing solar. SunCommon knows how to expertly navigate the labyrinth of these local permitting laws, and we take care of all communication with your municipality on your behalf. This part of the process can take some time, but rest assured, our Engineering and Procurement teams will make sure your solar system gets designed quickly and efficiently. Once permitting is complete, our installation crews will get to work, and your solar system will be operational in just 6-8 weeks’ time.

Installation Expertise

As far as the actual installation goes, you’re in very, very good hands. SunCommon has been awarded “Gold Status” three times now by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). This means we’ve achieved their Quality Solar Installer designation for at least three consecutive years. This distinction is reserved for installers who “exceed annual quality assurance criteria and consistently provide top tier performance and quality.” After nearly 10,000 residential solar installations, it’s fair to say we’ve got a lot of experience under our belt, and our happy customers can attest to our commitment to top-quality work.

Setting You Up For Success

In addition to the solar panels themselves, we’ll also install something called an inverter, sometimes called the “brain” of your system, which converts DC energy from your panels into AC energy that’s usable in your home. The inverter is also connected to your home’s Wi-Fi so you can easily monitor your solar production at all times. We recommend monitoring your solar system at least once a week to make sure that your panels are producing energy as expected. There are easy-to-use mobile apps to help you do this, and our website has instructions for troubleshooting. You can also always reach out to our knowledgeable and friendly Customer Support Team with questions at any time. We want you to be happy with your solar just as much as you do.
