It was a year into the pandemic when a New York City couple decided a vacation home was just what the doctor ordered. They followed their hearts upstate to Silo Ridge, a secluded gated community in Amenia. Spread over 850 acres of picture-perfect Hudson Valley countryside, the compound promises refreshing swims in a pristine lake, pickup hockey games on the wintertime ice rink, and enough hiking trails for year-round fresh air. The golf course, designed by world-famous architect Tom Fazio, boasts views of the Taconic Mountains from every hole. A nearby equestrian center offers all-level trail rides and lessons. The couple was sold. Plans for their new 7-bedroom custom build were underway by March 2021, and the house was done in January 2023.
Interior design pro Lindye Galloway—founder and chief creative officer of Lindye Galloway Studio + Shop in Orange County, California—was on board from the word go, overseeing everything from finishes to furniture. The project made its way across the country to her inbox via social media.
“One of the clients’ sisters had been following us on Instagram,” recalls Galloway. When the Silo Ridge plans were getting going, the sister suggested the couple follow Galloway, which led to an email message and subsequent conversation. “People reaching out to me via social media about projects actually happens pretty frequently,” she says. Galloway thinks it’s great, because followers have already seen examples of her work and had a chance to learn more about her and her design aesthetic. Everyone can hit the ground running,
Designer Lindye Galloway leaned into natural materials, neutral colors, and layers of texture to play up the beauty outside the windows.
For this weekend retreat, Galloway envisioned long nights around the fireplace with friends, sipping wine and sharing stories. Lofty ceilings, warm wood, and beautiful stonework provide the ideal backdrop for stunning lighting and cozy custom furnishings. Unique touches including a custom bar and wine cellar, golf simulator, and billiards room all contribute to the distinctive come-join vibe created by the self-taught designer, whose journey into the world of interiors was circuitous, rather than straight through design school. “I had been working in events and wedding design and planning when I decided to take some time off to start a family,” recounts Galloway. “In 2014, I began to consider transitioning into another career. Inspiration struck when my husband took me to tour a fixer-upper in our hometown. We began the process of remodeling the home, and that next year, I officially opened my own studio.” Her projects have since been featured in Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, and other high-profile national outlets, with more to come.
