Once part of the Hudson Valley’s Table Rock estate, the historic, castle-like abode comes with its own chapel, library, and a whopping 52 rooms.

Address: 150 Sisters Servant Lane, Sloatsburg

Description: The history of New York comes to life at this magnificent Hudson Valley manor house. Once part of an estate known as Table Rock, the 1904 property was built for William Pierson Hamilton, the great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton, and his wife, Juliet Pierpont Morgan, the daughter of financier J. Pierpont Morgan.

A powerhouse union in New York society, the couple lived in the 52-room abode until 1939, when, with the arrival of WWII, Pierpont Morgan could no longer hire staff or purchase coal to maintain the house.

In 1941, the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate purchased Table Rock House – one of eight houses on the original Table Rock estate – and a portion of the property for use as a retirement home for priests and, later, as St. Mary’s Villa Academy, a private Catholic girls’ boarding school. The stables converted to St. Joseph’s Home for retirement residents after its purchase in 1942. It is still in operation, while the house itself serves as St. Mary’s Villa Retreat House.

Now on the market, the 40,525-square-foot estate sits upon 40 acres, with four stories and massive fireplaces in nearly every room. History abounds throughout the residence, with everything from photos of the original couple’s children in the foyer to a Norman-style fireplace at the east end of the largest gallery. Features like a floating staircase, oak walls and floors, and an enclosed porch with a view of Sheppard Pond are equally captivating and add to the grandeur of the space. The chapel is a fixture on the grounds, as is the library, and both boast hand-carved details.

Selling points: A crowning example of real estate in the Hudson Valley, St. Mary’s Villa is just as magnificent as a private residence as it is a commercial venue. With ample indoor and outdoor space, it could easily serve as a home for a rehabilitation center, sanctuary, school, spa, or event venue.

Thanks to its prime location in Rockland County, the manor is located centrally between both Stewart International and Westchester County Airports, with Newark and LaGuardia Airports nearly equidistant. It’s near both the Sloatsburg Commuter Rail and the Tuxedo Commuter Rail as well.
