The Holiday Entertaining Tips You Need in the Hudson Valley

From creating the perfect tablescape to incorporating a color theme, local experts share ways to make your home look merry and bright.

Are you ready for some serious holiday entertaining, Hudson Valley? Whether you’re hosting the whole family or simply inviting a friend or two over for drinks, be sure to take time to add a dose of festivity to your home. Here are a few ways that experts across the Hudson Valley perfect their holiday entertaining plan during the most wonderful time of the year.

“One of the most festive ways to get into the holiday spirit is to decorate a tablescape that is full of items that set the mood. In our home, we host Thanksgiving yearly, with about 30 people. The table décor has become the anticipated viewing for guests.

Each year I consider five components for my table: color combinations, incorporating fresh elements, playing with textures, mixing and matching your glassware and dinnerware, and setting the table beyond the traditional settings. The holiday table is for gatherings with family and friends. Taking the time to offer a beautiful tablescape and adding one more layer of cheer brings joy for the season.”

“I love to run with a color theme for my holiday decorating — especially an unexpected one like peacock blue. Repeating the color in all of the holiday decorating creates impact. I keep a four-foot tray on my kitchen island for fruit and vegetables. However, at Christmas I fill it with an abundance of Christmas ornaments.”

“We love our neighbors and love celebrating the holidays with them. So we do it the day after a holiday — like the day after Thanksgiving. We all bring leftovers and something to drink. It’s an easy way to celebrate the holidays with friends without burdening anyone with having to host another big event. Not to mention that no one has to worry about traveling; we can all stumble home afterwards.”
