Hayden Panettiere’s Childhood Home in the Palisades Is on the Market

In the Palisades neighborhood of Sneden's Landing, the actress’s former French-style country home just hit the market for $4 million.

While Sneden’s Landing has historically been a popular neighborhood for past and present celebrities, including John Steinbeck, Katharine Hepburn, Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, and more, actress Hayden Panettiere is also a part of the extensive list. Now, her childhood home is on the market for $3,999,500 with Richard Ellis of Nyack-based Ellis Sotheby’s International Realty. The late-20th-century French-style country home in the Palisades was built in 1988 and remained home to Panettiere from 1998 to 2013.

Following a complete renovation by the current owners after they purchased it in 2021, the Palisades home features four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a mansard roof, covered porch, crank-out casement windows with arched tops, barrel-shaped dormers, and a two-car garage. The home’s exterior is also characterized by stucco walls with creeping ivy, resulting in the property being nicknamed the French Ivy House.

As a part of the home’s recent renovation, exterior improvements include a new roof, fresh stucco, bluestone walkways, stone walls and patio, a gas firepit, new fencing, and an extensive lighting system. Also, a secondary wing features a separate entrance that’s ideal for a home office or guests. Inside the 3,500-square-foot home, custom features like hand-painted murals on silver leaf paper, silk wallpaper, window treatments, and carpets breathe life into the estate.

Renovated with top-of-the-line materials like quarter-sawn oak floors and large slab Italian marble floors, the French Ivy House’s interior also includes a kitchen and butler pantry with cabinetry and marble countertops, Sub-Zero appliances, two gas fireplaces, and marble bathrooms. When it comes to entertainment, a Sonos speaker system is installed for both inside and outside use, a second-floor den features a wet bar, and new mechanicals include the water heater and three air conditioner compressors for the utmost comfort.

Listing agent Richard Ellis affirms that the owners “spared no expense in the extensive improvements to the 3,500-square-foot turnkey home, which can be purchased completely furnished for a fee.”

Professionally designed by a landscape architect, the property’s acreage is host to multiple water features, including a koi pond with water lilies and frogs, as well as stone patios, an abundance of tulips and daffodils in the springtime and a wall of trees in the rear. In short, the French Ivy House really feels like the French countryside.

“The home’s renovation exemplifies how thoughtful design can breathe new life into a charming gem while adapting it for modern living,” says Ellis. “The home feels like it was built in a different time, with a fun layout, two staircases, and lots of nooks and crannies. In addition to its timeless elegance characteristic of a European chateau, the home is in the exclusive neighborhood of Sneden’s Landing, which is well-known for its rustic seclusion, connection to the arts, and proximity to New York City.”

The French Ivy House is located at 129 Washington Spring Road in Palisades.
