Forget about building green; it seems the new color is “blu.”
Blu Homes, a California-based company that employs modern techniques to construct eco-friendly, prefabricated modular houses, is coming to Columbia County. This weekend, it hosts an open house for its latest project in Copake: dubbed “the Breezehouse,” the nearly 3,000-square-foot structure features three-to-four bedrooms, a “butterfly” roof, high ceilings, large windows, and open floor plans to maximize natural light. Additional features are available for homes like these, leaving potential homeowners the opportunity to customize their living spaces.

One of our favorite details about this prefabricated home is that it’s built faster — 95% is actually constructed off-site — and it uses recycled materials, too, which is a plus for those looking to minimize their carbon footprint. About a dozen of these abodes are planned for construction on 200 acres in Copake, so keep an eye out.
