Warwick's Bellvale Farms Creamery to Re-Open in April

Though many independent ice cream shops have closed their doors in the shadows of the mega-successful froyo fad, even large-scale purveyors like Pinkberry and Peachwave don’t stand a chance against Warwick’s legendary Bellvale Farms Creamery.

It’s open seven days a week for six months a year, though the line frequently snakes down the Mt. Peter property toward Route 17A, with Appalachian Trail hikers and visitors hungry for a taste of what TripAdvisor named the 2^nd best ice cream shop in the United States.

And it’s easy to see why with addictive flavors like Great White Way, white chocolate ice cream with raspberry swirl and dark chocolate chunks, and Bellvale Bog, dark chocolate ice cream with brownie dough and fudge swirl (both available in ice cream pies). Though out of 15 innovative flavors made in small batches, owner Amy Noteboom says that their most popular is a classic: Vanilla, made with pure vanilla bean, imported from Madagascar.

The creamery is operated on the property of a 450-acre family dairy farm. With roots in the 19^th century, Amy and her husband Tim are the 7^th generation of Bellvale Farm owners, running the creamery as well.

On April 1, Bellvale Farms Creamery will open for the 2017 season with a few changes. Construction on a new retail space has been underway since the fall, with room for more freezer space and seating. Outdoor handicap parking will allow for greater accessibility, while the addition of walk-up windows are expected to ease lines and help with crowd management.

As for icy eats, Amy notes the expansion of their non-dairy offerings, like sorbet, as well as coconut and almond-based ice cream. And if you’re on board with the matcha craze, Bellvale is working on a new green tea flavor for the summer. Get yours through October 31.
