Two Beloved Valley Restaurants Close; Plus: This Month’s Upcoming Festivals

News and notes from the Valley’s dining scene in May 2016

Fond farewell: Two Valley restaurants have recently closed their doors for good. An Uptown Kingston eatery, the Frogmore Tavern was known for its Southern-inspired cuisine and two-beer tap line that focused on local craft selections. A dining staple in the city of Poughkeepsie for more than a century, Andy’s Place — a casual family restaurant overlooking the Hudson — has served its last bowl of chili. Made from a family recipe, the spicy concoction was a Best of Hudson Valley winner for as long as the current editors can remember.

New to Greig Farm in Red Hook, the Hudson Valley Farmer’s Market is open seven days a week, year-round, complete with local products galore. Don’t miss out on its yummy breakfast and lunch served daily. After grabbing a bite to eat, head out to the farm for some fresh veggies.

In what could be the greatest congregation of meals on wheels in history, the Hudson Valley Food Truck Festival unites food trucks from around the region to deliver their delicious dishes at Cantine Memorial Field in Saugerties on May 19. Noodles, German-style pizza, hot dogs, and BBQ make up some of the available fare. Guests enjoy music, entertainment, beer, and wine.

Meet with the Valley’s master brewers and cider makers and snag some of their brewing tips at the fifth annual Brew Fest on the Farm at Pennings Farm in Warwick on May 28. Taste more than 40 locally crafted beers and hard ciders while noshing on goodies from specialty food vendors. Don’t forget your dancing shoes because live music will play all afternoon; hop on a scenic hayride for a tour of the orchard, too.
