If you like brunch, book clubs, karaoke, good food and an overwhelming amount of beer, then McFoxlin’s may be your new go-to hang out.
McFoxlin’s, serves as a hub of all things beer, wine, locally made food, and an overall hang-out hub. There are about 50 cans of beer and cider, a range of wines and sparkling wines, and 12 draft lines.
A few of the beer selections include: Three’s Brewing Constant Disappointment, an IPA; Barreled Souls M.C.A.M., a Porter with hints of cinnamon and bacon; Mikkeller NYC’s Can I get a Wit Wit, a Witbier; Nightmare Brewing Windlass of Erasmus, a Gose with blackberries, blackcurrants and black sea salt; as well as sparkling wine like Brut Reserve Champagne; and ciders from Brooklyn Cider House.
Emily Fox opened up the restaurant in New Paltz on May 6. This is Fox’s first business and she wants to deepen the ties in the community. McFoxlin’s was originally going to be a specialty beer store and bar but then had to convert into a full-service restaurant, because of the location.
“My goal in opening McFoxlin’s was to create a space that feels like a second living room, somewhere you can hang out, relax, maybe get some work done, maybe have a good chat but definitely have some yummy things to eat and drink,” Fox says.
The menu has classics like avocado toast, BLAT (bacon, lettuce, and tomato), and salmon toast, but has special menu items too, like the fan-favorite risotto. The shop also aims to be inclusive, incorporating gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options on the menu.
“We’ve made it a priority to have as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. So our meat is locally sourced, our eggs come from New Paltz, our dairy products come from a bit north of Albany, our smoked salmon is smoked in Wallkill,” Fox says. “I’m usually bouncing around to farm stands on the weekends to get fruits and veggies for the brunch menu.”
Book clubs, karaoke nights, and a bottle share are upcoming events at the space. A champagne and beer dinner is in planning. There’s even a special Thanksgiving event, “A Very McFoxlin’s Thanksgiving,” where people can pay what they can for a hearty meal with all the traditional favorite foods.
McFoxlin’s is located at 5 Church St, New Paltz.
