This Week’s Pick: Cortland Apple


It’s no wonder Snow White couldn’t resist: the Cortland apple, with its crimson and gold skin and sweet white flesh, is best known as an all-purpose apple, making it perfect for desserts. (We hear Snow had a sweet tooth, you know.) The hybrid between McIntosh and Ben Davis varieties, it’s also used in fresh salads and fruit plates.

Taste: Sweet and juicy with a hint of tartness; tender, snow-white flesh

Use: Eating, salads, sauces, baking; good for freezing

Fun fact: Cortland apples are slow to brown when cut, making them the perfect option for fruit plates
