This Pizza Shop Is Why You Should Do Your Grocery Shopping at Adams

As part of the renovation to its Newburgh location, Adams Fairacre Farms debuts an old-school pizzeria to fuel the Hudson Valley.

Adams Fairacre Farms is the grocery store chain that has everything. A candy shop, flower shop, and ice cream store are just a few of the spaces that reside in the family-owned supermarket’s four locations. One thing that’s always been missing, however, is pizza…but not anymore.

Yes, that’s right, Adams Fairacre Farms opened a pizza shop to complement its regular grocery store programming. Although the shop is currently only at the Newburgh location, the hope is that, if it goes well, the other locations in Kingston, Poughkeepsie, and Wappingers may follow suit in the future.

“Everyone loves pizza,” Newburgh store manager Mark Wheeler says. “We know there are a lot of pizza shops in the area but felt that our shoppers would love the addition, especially our lunch crowd.”

The Newburgh location was fortunate enough to find space for it when designing its remodel. There’s enough room for four ovens, an upgrade from the one to two that were originally forecasted. The deck ovens will be part of the rustic, old-school pizzeria vibe that’s made complete with a wooden counter and glass case to house the pizzas, plus wooden tile walls.

As for the menu, customers can peek inside the display case to order slices, which will include plain, white, Sicilian, meat lover’s, veggie lover’s, and some with the store-made mozzarella cheese. There’s also the option to order a whole pie in either a personal size or a large, and customers can choose from the specialty pies or the build-your-own toppings lineup. Along with pizzas, the shop sells calzones, garlic bread, and stromboli.

“We feel that if we put our Adams touch on it, using the freshest ingredients and the most local ingredients, it will be a huge draw,” Wheeler says.

Since convenience is key at Adams, the opportunity for customers to stop by the store after work, order a pizza, and do a bit of shopping is a major boon for the Newburgh outpost. Of course, the pizzeria is only one of the new additions to the Orange County location. As part of the overhaul, the store recently unveiled a new cheese and coffee center, which puts the store-made mozzarella station on display so customers can watch the action and speak with the makers.

After opening in October, the parlor has quickly become a favorite spot for a slice in the Hudson Valley.

“People have been loving the idea of it being added,” Wheeler says. “It’s been the talk of the project as we go through and people [asked], ‘What’s going on there?’ or ‘What’s behind the wall?’”
