These Wine Selections Will Make the Perfect Mother's Day Gift

Can’t think of something to get for mom? These wine choices are sure to please.

Buying gifts for mom can be a challenge; massages and manicures or jewelry? Cute kitchen sets or books? Finding the perfect gift can be hard, but we know one thing a lot of moms will probably like – a great bottle of wine. We talked to James Zecca from Varmax Liquor Pantry about the best wines to gift your mom, at varying price points, this Mother’s Day.

 

WHITE

Albarino de Fefinanes, Albarino 2015 – Spain, $21.99

This light and bright choice has highly perfumed aromas of fresh citrus and orchard fruits. With notes of lime zest, green apple, and quinine flavors, this wine finishes bright, taut, and long, with lingering florality.

Penner-Ash, Viognier 2015 – Oregon, $29.99

A well-crafted viognier, this particular wine has an attractive bouquet with notes of honeysuckle and jasmine coming from the glass.

 

RED

Vina Carmen, Carmenere ‘Gran Reserva’ 2014 – Chile, $14.99

This carmenere features hints of black pepper, dark olive, and black currant. The finish is tannic, with an accent of bittersweet chocolate.

 Ardevol, Priorat ‘Anjoli’ 2013 – Spain, $24.99

A vivid ruby color, this wine comes in with high-pitched red berry and floral aromas, with notes of smoky minerals, tobacco, and licorice. The finish is long, with smooth tannins and a fresh, dark berry flavor.

 

ROSE

Schloss Gobelsburg Rose ‘Cistercien’ 2016 – Austria, $14.99

Bright and invigorating, this choice features a pungent nose of lime and orange zest, with a tones of almond extract that bring together a juicy palate of sour cherry, rose hip, and muskmelon.

Domaines Ott Clos Mireille Rose Cru Classe 2016 – France, $45.99

This fruity wine has a pale peach hue and copper tints, revealing delicate apricot and white peach aromas with notes of cardamom and vanilla. Candied citrus fruit and white pepper flavors linger on the finish.

 

SPARKLING

Schramsberg ‘Mirabelle’ Brut Rose – California, $24.99

The palate on this choice is tangy, with aromas of raspberry compote, strawberry, cherry, and currant. Hints of pineapple and guava also make an appearance, with bright flavors of cherry and wild raspberry complimenting the aromas.

Champagne Doyard Cuvee Vendemaiaire Premiere Cru – France, $41.99

Rich and creamy, juicy acidity provides a frame for honey-crisp apple, glazed apricot, candied ginger, and lemon flavors.
