“It’s a cute little grandma’s kitchen,” explains Sandie Tanzillo-Gay of Tanzy’s, the Hudson restaurant she owns with her sister, Tisha Mulligan. “We grew up here, and we like to make everyone feel welcome and at home.” At this eight-table, 35-seat spot, that welcome includes platter-size pillowy pancakes (short stack $4.50, full stack $6.50). The Belgian waffles special is another contender — light and golden waffles with deep pockets to catch butter and syrup.
And while sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits and gravy is usually a Southern thing, Tanzy’s uses hot Italian sausage for added zing. “It’s really spectacular,” says Tanzillo-Gay. “I have to call people and tell them when I’m having it.” On Sundays, the sisters cook up specials to please “the church ladies,” so you’ll find pecan French toast and cheddar cornmeal pancakes listed on the blackboard. 518-828-5165; www.tanzyshudson.com
